My free preview of Starhub’s Family Plus package ended yesterday. Lasting between Oct 13 – 26, I was given access to additional channels which aired content not available on my current stable of channels. Among the channels, CL and I derived most entertainment from the Asian Food Channel (AFC) and BBC Entertainment. It was great fun to be once again exposed to new British comedies – My Hero, My Family and The Worst Week of My Life. British humour is indeed a breath of fresh air compared to run of the mill – in your face – US-type humour which we get from American sitcoms.

Anyway, the theme of this post is more about the programmes I caught on the AFC than the laughs I got from the British comedies. Showing a good mix of cooking programmes, AFC exposed me to a wide variety of international cuisines which I don’t really get on Discovery Travel, which carries programmes by Jamie Oliver, Floyd and Nigella Dawson – all good cooks in their own right. But the drawback is the tendency of these chefs to focus on the European cuisine with fusion interpretations of Asian dishes. Fusion being something of a cuisine which I don’t really buy into.

Not wanting to contrdict what I said earlier, I have to say that The Fword, a show hosted by the foul mouthed award-winning chef – Gordon Ramsey, and cooking up mainly Western cuisine based dishes, is perhaps the most inspirational show I caught during this period of time. Although Ramsey’s blatant pride in his abilities can be a put off at times, but I have to admit that he’s a fantastic chef and I have learnt some useful tips from the 2 episodes I have watched so far. You can view some of his interesting video recipes on Channel4. Have fun!

Truth be told, I have many blogs which covered, among many, topics, as mundane as my daily routine, to sharing of my photographic exploits, which sadly ain’t many. As the search for my personal holy grail of my life’s love intensified, I swung from melancholy to euphoria before finding myself in the most unconventional corner of my soul. In that quiet little corner, I found the cook in me. More details of this discovery can be found in the About page.

As a foodie and aspiring home chef, I hope to bring together all food lovers, be it professional chefs, housewives, to the occasional cooks, from all walks of life, who enjoy the process of cooking, to share this love with the people whom we cook for. My wife (“CL”), a foodie and aspiring cook in her own right, is the inspiration behind this life project. Without her constant feedback and love, the accidental chef would still be waiting to be discovered.

Without further ado, I would like to kick off the blog with a few simple words, which also happen to be this blog’s motto – “Life’s Short! Taste It!“
